Bamboo has many virtues, as we keep hearing from myriad bamboosters: It’s strong. It has natural antibacterial properties. It’s one of the most renewable resources in the world. Et cetera, et cetera. That’s all very nice, we’re sure. But the main reason we love bamboo ain’t on that list. We love bamboo because it leads all woods and vegetable fibers in how fun it is to say.

“Bamboo.” Tee-hee! It’s like a piece of comic-book onomatopoeia, the sound of Batman kicking in a door. It’s like something a magician might say at the moment he transforms a piece of crumpled paper into a dove. It’s like a sweet fragment of baby babble. It’s great.

“Mahogany” is OK too, because it sounds like something a baggy-pants comic would say involuntarily when he sees a dishy dame. But bamboo is still slightly better.

Hey, I really appreciate you picking up this Stanley Do-It-Yourself Tool Kit. This is going to help me finish a lot of projects I’ve been neglecting around the house. That’s mighty nice of you. I just was really hoping for a different tool kit.

Well, to be specific, more of a “Somebody-Else-Comes-Over-And-Does-It” tool kit.

Hey, look, it’s tough to complain. I mean I’m sportin’ a 20-piece socket set, heavy duty glue gun kit, light duty staple gun, 3-in-1 saw set, fiberglass hammer, snap-off knife, 2-piece pliers set, tape rule, screwdriver with 10 bits, level, and stud sensor. All of it comes contained in this awesome cantilever bag, too.

But so far, all I’ve managed to do is put the stud finder on my chest and yell at passersby, “HEY! FOUND ONE!”

So if there’s some sort of tool kit that contains a phone which instantly connects to a general contractor who works for free, I’d like to exchange it.
